With reference to Sir W.

Peel's Confidential despatch of

the 26th of April on the subject

of dredging in the vicinity of

the Hong Kong and Kowloon Wharf

and Godown Company's piers,

I have etc. to transmit to you

a copy of a report on the subject

by the Imperial Shipping Committee.

You will note that the Committee

recommend that the whole area in

question should be dredged to a

depth of 36 feet, subject to the

proviso that the dues on shipping

should not be increased to meet

the whole or part of the cost.
